New student orientation Daytime classes

8:30 Welcome Speech – Attend the ‘Welcome speech’ from our Director of Studies followed by a presentation of all SELC courses from the course Coordinators.
8:40 SELC Placement Test – This is to test your English level and to determine which class you will join. The test will take approximately 1.5 hours. During your test you will have a speaking interview with one of the teachers to assess your oral ability.
10:30 Orientation – You will receive an information booklet about SELC and learn more about living and studying in Australia. You will also receive a SELC student card and information about Overseas Student Health Cover, as well as a SELC notebook.
11:30 Tour of the SchoolOur teachers will show you around the school campuses.
11:45 Homestay Meeting – You will meet the Accommodation Officer who will tell you what you need to know about living with your Australian family.

New student orientation Evening classes

16:30  Welcome Speech – Attend the ‘Welcome speech’ from our Director of Studies followed by a presentation of all SELC courses from the course Coordinators.
17:00 SELC Placement Test – This is to test your English level and to determine which class you will join. The test will take approximately 1.5 hours. During your test you will have a speaking interview with one of the teachers to assess your oral ability.

  • Please arrive for orientation 30 minutes before the orientation start time.
  • Day 1 occurs every Monday with the exception of public holidays.
  • This is a typical Day 1 schedule and times may be subject to change.
  • Depending on the size of intake, students may be placed into class in lesson 2 of Day 1 or lesson 1 of Day 2. In the first case, tours of the facilities will be held at 14:00.
  • Please note that English for Customer Service Communication always starts on Day 2.

Progress Test

Students have a progress test every week. The results of this test and the students’ overall performance help to determine if the student is ready to change class, level or course.
Most students do a minimum of 12 weeks at each level, this is usually the optimum amount of time to learn and absorb the necessary grammar and vocabulary for each level.

Friday – Graduation ceremony

All students finishing their studies at SELC will receive a certificate.
